Vanuatu in pictures

When you look through these photos I hope you’ll see why Vanuatu is one of my favourite places on the planet. An archipelago of about 80 islands scattered across 1300km of the South Pacific, Vanuatu is dizzyingly diverse with vibrant coral reefs, lush rainforests, other-worldly landscapes created by some of the world’s most active volcanoes, extraordinary homegrown religions untouched by missionaries, and more languages than anywhere on Earth apart from New Guinea. Add to that the gentle, softly-spoken Ni-Vanuatu people, who are consistently ranked among the world’s happiest people despite — or maybe because of? — their materially simple lives.

If you like these photos you might also like my stories about walking Vanuatu’s volcanoes and the tree houses of Tanna.
